14" SSII for disc brakes

I have a set of 14" SSII wheels. I hear some 14" SSII are for disc brakes. How would I tell the difference? Thanks

This comes up about once a week.

Every single SSII or SSIII wheel ever made by Oldsmobile from 1968 (when they first came out) to 1988 (when the last were made) will clear the factory 10.75" disc brakes. If you have aftermarket brakes, it depends on how close they are to stock. If you have aftermarket SSII/III wheels in a non-factory size, no guarantees.

SSI wheels did come in drum-only and disc brake versions.

Excuse my ignorance on the wheels, I have the SSI set with trim rings. How do I tell the difference in these wheels? Thanks again

The trick is to look at the backside of the rims. I stole these sketches and photos from H.A.M.B. The sketch shows the difference in backside contour for the drum-only (left) and disc (right) wheels.

Now look at these photos. The first is a drum-only wheel.

This is a disc brake wheel. Note both the contour difference and the circumfrential groove. The groove is present on all factory disc brake wheels and is an easy identifier. I cannot say that this feature applies to aftermarket wheels, however.

Hey, Thanks. I have the SSI Disc brake wheels. I did not want to go to an aftermarket wheel, I've always liked these (even though I always thought they were Buick wheels )
