1962 oldsmobile wagon

I have a 1962 oldsmobile dynamic 88 wagon, with 394 and 3 speed roto transmission. I had to change the carb, can anyone tell me how to set up the trans linkage? does it need to move with carb linkage or wait for carb linkage to move first and then move trans linkage? is the trans linkage like a passing gear or does it need to move to pull out. I don't want to burn up transmission.

You need a good hydra-matic service manual to properly set the trans linkage. It is very touchy. Takes a lot of tries and patience to get it right.

Hello and welcome to Classic Olds, where are you located? why I ask is there are a few people on here with 62-64 cars that could direct you to the right trans shop that can set the T.V. rod, in the manual there is a correct tool for setting the length of the rod and after it is set you need to fine adjust it to suit your car. I have set them by trial and error until I get it right.
I have not tried to adjust one on a car where the carb has been changed to a non original set up. I have swapped out the trans for another slim jim and reset them and reset them after a rebuild on the carb.
