I have noticed that the rally wheels were not an option (or available) on 1972 A-body wagons. Heavy duty wheels were standard.

I have heard that this was true due to the wheel's strength. The Vista carries an extra 600lb empty weight and the wogons have a higher cargo and towing capacity than any of the cars.

I have seen many A-body wagons with the rally wheels (they look great!!) but often wonder if anyone has had failures of them when the wagon is fully loaded or when towing. Anyone have cracks or breaks?

I talked to a guy a while back who's 57 Plymouth wagon broke 3 'car' same-year wheels on one long trip when the thing was loaded with camping gear and the family. Just curious.....

Alan refused to put them on his Vista. He used to say he had the only one that didn't have SS wheels on it.

Rob, I've got 15 " SS II on mine. It came that way when I bought it so I have no idea how many miles are on them. So far no problems.

I bought my 68 Vista with SSI wheels. The car ran well but needed lots of bodywork. That stage of the car is done. I added the SSII wheels later on.
I don't carry the weight that families used to pack in these cars back in the day. I haven't even put the trailer hitch back on. The wheels we put on our cars now are usually blasted and then checked for any damage so I would think that there wouldn't be an issue with them breaking - not like the older '50s wheels.
I also have sets of the deluxe wheel covers, 14" and 15" that I will someday put on the car for a "portrait session".

Blue, where are you! I want to hear your story...

Perhaps the 70's wheels were more robust and took the extra weight better than the 50's ones.
Those wheels should have been offered on wagons back then - they look great on 'em.
