Hello there, My my name is Jay Fisher. I am using the directory in our local chapter to find people to reach out to.
I have a rusted (but drives great) 72 vista cruiser. the back window works BUT the bottom of the the 2 way tailgate door is so rusted that it "catches" on something and it is making it very difficult to close. I do not know if its a inner mechanism or the actual rusted part of the bottom of the door that is causing the problem. I am looking for another tailgate or help with repairing the one I have. I am in Berkeley and SF CA. Thank you in advance for your time.
Hi Jay
Welcome to the site! I've got an extra tailgate up in Medford Oregon. But I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted thread to see if anyone closer to you has a good used one available.
The tailgate shell is the same P/N on all 1969-72 Olds A-body wagons with dual-acting tailgate. That's flattops as well as Vistas. Good luck with the search.
Loaded68W34 Interesting alternative to wood grain on that Vista Cruiser. Any more photos or info or the application process? Almost looks like a formed panel of sorts in that area that's normally hidden behind the bumper.
The car has black metallic brushed metal vinyl wrap in all of the factory wood grain areas. This is one of the only things on the car I had someone else do as the material is not cheap. You have to see in in the sun to really appreciate it. Looks like brushed aluminum. The black areas below the tailgate are the factory rubber pieces that go in those areas. They have started to reproduce the large center piece, small right side piece, and step insert but at this point no one makes the far left part that goes over the left side hinge.
Below is a link to the build. The very last post has a video that someone took when I had the car at Ocean city last year. It shows off the wrap pretty well. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-148770/page3/
