VC gas tanks

Anyone tried using an El Camino tank in their wagon. On paper it looks as though it should work. Just wondering...

tank

They both are under the back. I got the El Camino tank and installed it. The neck comes out further forward (about 6") and higher up on the side. I hole sawed the frame and added a gusset to the inside frame rail. I got the Spectra tank with pump/sender in tank. I'm doing an LS conversion and it should work fine. Hal

What year Vista? Late 60s and early 70s models had them on the side...

Tank

I have a 1965 VC. It looks like 64-67 used the same tank. The El Camino tank is the same size as the VC, there even is a flat place for the fuel neck where it 'should' be. Was able to reuse the straps and the tank fit perfectly except for the neck location. I was able to cut a piece out of the fill tube and reweld it to fit. Not a real big job for sure. BTW, the fuel gauge works great-had a bad sender in the old tank. Hal
