Newbie: Should I buy this Vista?
Newbie: Should I buy this Vista?
By now, I'm sure folks in this forum have seen this incredible Vista on EBAY: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...item2570de4289.
With one day left, it's already up to $12K.
I have wanted a 1970 Vista for years. I already have a '73 Ford Pinto Squire and a '72 Karman Ghia vert...both like new.
This Vista is going to be expensive. Any thoughts out there? Should I take the plunge?
Thanks in advance!

I have been in deep though about this one myself. However, I concluded it is just too good and too original to be left outside for daily driver use in the nasty Dallas suburbs.
I have been looking at these for a while and for what you get (judging by pics and description), the price is still reasonable. I have seen them hit 15k even. This will be a fine collectable, to go with your other wagons. (I want to know more about the 73!)
I say, go for it!

Frame Rails
MDchanic ...No, I did not notice the overspray...are Frame Rails just under the doors? Forgive me, but I'm not a mechanic...
Lady72nRob71 - My '73 Pinto Squire is amazing. It has only 60K original miles, and is loaded, as they used to say. It looks new, inside and out. Not a speck of rust. I love this car, and it gets smiles at every stoplight, and folks wanting to buy it. Turns out, the fire danger with Pintos was a media event, and they are now huge collectors' items. Check out www.fordpinto.com. I'm there too. Very unfortunately, if I get the Vista, the Pinto goes up for sale. I even have the window sticker ($2.7K) and owners manual!

The factory painted them black, but these are dusted with blue.
As I noted, he DID say it had been "touched up," but I would always want to ascertain the exact extent of any "touch up" before taking a $15,000 chance.

I'm not saying that the actual overspray on the frame rails is the problem, only that it points to a repaint (and not a terribly neat one), when the seller said it'd been "touched up."
I'm just making the point that one man's "touch up" is another man's "bondo job," and I'd want to be SURE which it was before laying my money down.

Thanks also to droptopron. Didn't notice the grain difference. Will have to look closer. Unfortunately, this auction ends tomorrow, and I'm hundreds of miles away. I'm tempted to take the plunge and offer a decent, but not too high price. We'll see. Even with defects, the fact is the car looks totally rust-free and ready to go...not show-ready, but not that far...hopefully that is.
