At My "Wits End"...

There's nothing in my Shop Manual (for a 57 Olds) that tells me how to remove the windshield wiper arm (rod) from the wiper transmission head. There is no bolt on the connecting end of the arm itself. There is an escutcheon notched nut below the arm, but the arm needs to be removed before you can get to this nut (Or at least I think I'm correct here). This is a vacuum wiper system.

I feel a little foolish asking, but any one how to remove a wiper arm on a 57 Olds?

I should have said something earlier but I thought you'd have figured it out by now....just pry up on the side opposite the arm very carefully so you won't scratch anything..use blanket or shop rags for protection...and before you reassemble put some white lithium grease on the post...check inside of hole for stripped splines...the bottle opener on my jack knife works perfectly to spin off the nut on the power antenna, haven't tried it on the wiper escutchion yet...I have a Lisle tool that grabs the lower part of the wiper arm and you just lift it off...

I was wondering about prying the thing off, but too worried I'd break or scratch something. I think I'll look for that Lisle tool before I begin, and there's an escutcheon nut removing tool as well.

Well both tools came in and the lisle tool I found was a bust, but ended up prying up the wiper arm effortlessly and carefully with a crescent wrench from the back of the wiper arm.

The Chevy escutcheon nut removing tool from Ekler's worked just fine on the slotted (escutcheon) nuts that hold on the wiper transmission plates. These are also the same plates that house the windshield washer nozzles. Had to clean out the sediment from years of prior use and order two new nozzles to enable a resistance free washer spray to the windshield. (My ultimate goal here is to get my windshield washer working again).
