Hydra Matic Fluid

Hello,

Can anyone please tell me what type of auto trans fluid would work in my 1948 Olds?

Thanks

Any of the Dextron's will work fine, they are all compatible in your car and can be intermixed with what ever number they are on now.... Tedd

Original was Type A Suffix A. Made with whale oil and long out of production.

If you can find Dexron III / Mercon III that will be the best modern equivalent. V, VI and however many Roman numerals later will probably be OK but they're formulated for different conditions and materials than III.

Use Dexron III .
I've heard that some newer fluids that are synthetic can dissolve the glue used to bind the friction material to the clutch plates.
