As for as pulling the motor there is no difference. The tailshaft on the 55 is different from the 54. The tailshaft seal is a pain on the 55 as it is up in the tailshaft while the 54 is more traditional and is in the rear of the tailshaft and is way better.

He's just bragging, it's the only thing he can find on a 54 that's better than a 55....Tedd

Tedd the only reason I know is because my 54 actually has a 55 engine and transmission in it. That tailshaft seal in a 55 (I think all the way through 57) is a pain. I am sure you know that.

I knew you had. That did not prove to be a good design change from GM.

I like to pull the engine and trans together. Reason being the trans being left in the car will need to be supported and it becomes a bitch if you have to move the car around at anytime dragging the support with it. Besides it most likely needs the seals replaced anyway and a lot easier to work on it out in the open. Also it is easier to split the trans from the engine with it's 28 or so flex plate bolts on the ground than laying on your back with period correct grime falling into your eyes every time you bump it with a ratchet... Just a few remembrances from the past..... Tedd
