Power Steering Pulley Removal- 56 Olds 98

Hi there. I’m installing a new steering gear box and rebuilding the power steering pump on my 56 Olds 98.

I’m having a bear of a time with the pulley on the power steering pump. The manual says “remove the pulley” and doesn’t list specialty tools or anything like that. has anyone else figured out a trick to getting this thing off? There’s no lip on the nose of it to slide a puller on there like the 60’s/ 70’s Chevys I’ve worked on.

Thanks for the help! Trying not to mess this pulley up.

Just to close the loop… I soaked it in penetrating oil overnight, and holding the pump off the work bench by the pulley and tapping the shaft with a hammer got it free. I think it was just rusted on there. A little oil on re-assembly and it went back together without difficulty.

bolt on versus press on

"press on" pulleys on Saginaw Gm pumps started in the mid seventies. Before that, they were "bolt on".
