Ignition coil/resistor question!
Ignition coil/resistor question!
On a mostly stock rebuilt 324 ('56 Super 88) running a remanufactured stock distributor, I have a Pertronix ignition coil with 1.5 ohms resistance. I AM NOT running the pertronix conversion in the distributor, it has the original points. With this coil, is it necessary for me to run the ballast resistor? Based on the Pertronix instructions, I'm thinking it's not, but I would like confirmation before I burn up a coil. FWIW, I'm also running an alternator in place of the genny, with no voltage regulator, all new Painless harness, Sniper EFI. Thanks!

Measure the voltage at the small primary wire to the points with the car running, if it is battery voltage it needs to be lowered to 9.5 - 10 VDC or the points will burn. With the resistor in the coil it should be good but measure it and you'll know for sure. Must be running, not just the key on.
