So my generator is shot its screaming and not charging I have a gm 3 wire alt I would like to swap in.
Speedway sells a plug with a resistor in it, do i need this resistor and why?
I believe that wiring is pretty straight forward but could always use a diagram just in case

Yes, you need that resistor (actually I believe it's a diode) It prevents voltage "backflow" when you shut the car off. If you don't use it (or put a small light bulb inline with the field circuit), your car will keep running even after you shut off the key.
As noted, the Speedway harness has a diode. The resistor comes in if you are not using a GEN light. The SI-family alternators require about 35 ohms on that wire for the internal regulator to work properly. The resistance of the idiot light bulb filament is sufficient. If you are using a voltmeter instead of a light, you need a resistor in that wire also.
So i finally got time to wire it today found this diagram
and was wondering do i just connect the votage sensing wire and the charge wire at the same distribution lug neat the battery also what needs to pulled off the voltage regulator?
