'56 hood plane with light??? whats with that? with pics.


Currently on ebay with all the other oldsmobile hood planes(there are a lot), this one has a light. My first guess is that someone made it that way but there seems to be a lot of work involved. Anyone?

Pete, I'm pretty sure someone made that one. To my knowledge Pontiac was the only one to offer a lighted hood ornament and those lamps are way too modern to have been 1956 issue.

I've seen a 57 Olds that had lights installed in the fender rockets and that was a neat trick. Especially impressive at night.

Yep, that was the thing to do back in the day - lights up under the fenders skirts shining down on spinner caps. clearance lights, and stuff like this. A precurser to what the younger generation does today with the LEDs and neon etc.

Those are vintage arcraft instument lights. I love the old hood ornaments.

That's awesome..I've ALWAYS wanted to do that on my '55 ornament.

I envisioned using the fiber optic tubing like on the 80's Toros or LED's.

Wonder where I'd get single bulb LEDs?..
