I wanted to change out the left handed thread studs to all right handed. The problem is I have the front hub/drum off and cannot separate them. Aren't they two pieces? I have soaked the hub area and beat on the studs and hub itself with a block to no avail. Does anyone know if this comes apart?

 

I believe they are pressed in, but why go to all that trouble if they weren't damaged in the first place.They have a big L on the stud face to remind you that they are left handed...Tedd

 

I doubt I can find after market lugs that are left handed thread for different wheels. Looking at some 15x7 aluminum wheels. Figured I would have to change the studs

 

The studs are removed by machining the lip of metal that holds the stud in place. Then they can be removed. Then you need to have the metal pressed back down to keep them tight in the hole. I had to do this on my 57. I understand the right and left threads are a pain and it would be nice to change them out, but in order to get them out, the metal around the stud must be machined to allow it to be pushed out.

 

So the hub does not come off the brake drum? It looks 2 piece but will not budge. I will try and grind the inside part of the studs an use an air hammer to push them out.

 

Wrong and wrong!! These lug nuts are EASILY found on EBay- in fact Cragar makes a slotted LH wheel nuts in the thread pattern you need 1/2-20. Changing the studs out are a waste of time. Just type in 'LH lug nuts' on EBay

 

Thanks 59-59-59, I would still like to know if the hub comes off the drum? It doesn't say much in the manual about separating them.

 

After further searching I have learned that the drum was installed on the hub then the studs were "swedged" to hold the drum to the hub. Sounds like a ton of work to seperate them if you needed a new drum or hub.
