'56 88 troubles

Good Morning everybody. I went to the shop and got my car yesterday and made it about 30 mins down the road when it started acting a bit funny. It's like it was having trouble getting into the next gear. It would start off fine but would start bogging down and droning (for lack of better word). It topped out around 45 mph or so but it was all down hill the more it warmed. Also it had something that soundedk like it was almost wheezing. If you guys/gals have any idea I would be open for all of them. I am going to attempt to get a video this afternoon when I get home from work. Thank you all.

Hmm that sounds like a fuel issue or a vacuum issue.

I appreciate the reply. This was all before I switched over to the carb a few days ago. I believe we had an exchange on my 56 carb opinions thread.

Check and see if the distributor is advancing or not. Could be bad vacuum, stuck or hung-up point plate. That will cause that symptom. Feels like a shortness of fuel but is electrical in nature. Tedd

You mentioned it was 30 minutes down the road... So it was operating perfectly, shifting through all gears, before that?

Does it work fine when cold only?

Usually perfect, then suddenly not, is a symptom of something breaking/failing..

It seemed to be doing well prior. It had a pro-jection kit on it that I was able to toy with a bit more after I trailered it home. That thing was a pain to work with, so I dumped it for a Holley carb. I am still in the process of getting that working right. I haven't had a chance to get it out and let it stretch it's legs just yet.
