'55 super 88 trans

Can anyone tell me how to check trans fluid level on '55 super 88 that I assume has a hydramatic? Also I read somewhere a good replacement for the original trans fluid would be Dextron III.

Is this one of those HMT's that you have to remove a panel in the car floor to access the dipstick? That's what I read into his post...

No it's in the engine bay. I asked how to check it because there is no park position on the shifter.
