55 Hydramatic Question

Have a beautiful 55 drivetrain on a run stand. I drove the parts car it came out of and it’s strong and shifts like it should.

After sitting ~6 years I degreased / power washed it and fired it off to chase out any leaks before I put it in my 55 88 Holiday.

Transmission fluid from the bellhousing led me to separate them. Heck of a lot easier now.

I’ve never messed with one off the car so my question is that this (torus cover?) is loose now that they’re separated-is this normal?

Thanks Mark - I’ve watched John Dodd’s videos but still couldn’t get a clear answer

Was dripping out of the inspection cover after the engine ran a few minutes.

Torus gasket wasn’t leaking-entire perimeter was dry.

Can’t determine where it’s coming from - almost looks like the gasket between the flywheel and crank? It’s wet and the rear main is NOT leaking - I watched it run with a light for a while from both sides and not a drip.

is this crank gasket a common leak point?

thanks again

If it was leaking out of the inspection cover, then if it were mine, i would replace the front seal in the bell housing. Now is the time and not that hard to do. Perhaps pull the flywheel and use a little sealer on the face of the crankshaft and the flywheel where they meet and possibly a little on the flywheel bolt threads when re assembling. Just to be safe. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with it.
