Well now! A little earlier this morning I stumbled onto the tread I started in 2012 about the reconstruction of my 49 Old's 88 2dr sdn, I knew the thread was out their somewhere because when I rejoined the Classic Olds forum in Sept 2012 my old avatar and join date popped up.
Scanning through the story of my '49 Olds, it was gratifying to note that over 13K people had visited the topic, with a 120 plus comments.
To bring this topic/thread up to date, my last contribution was in 2015. Several things happened in my life after my last contribution. My wives health got worse, she had been fighting lung cancer for over four years, the zeal I had to recreate the '50 Olds I had owned when my wife and I were going together in 1954 faded away when she passed away in the early spring of 2016.
My wife and I had been together for 61 years, we had a 'good ride' in my '50 Olds, then in the '53 Super 88 that we owned until 1958.
The wind kinda went out of my sales for awhile, the responsibility's of settling the estate, etc., took a lot of my time so my old cars took a back seat.
I won't belabor the past, it is behind me now, I am back hitting on all eight cylinders, and as some of you may have noted I finally found a clone to my original '53 Olds Super 88.
I still have the '49 88, it is sitting in the back corner of my shop. I keep thinking I should sell it, the car is complete except for paint, glass, and upholstery, all of the chrome has been redone to show quality. I know I'll take a beating on what I could get out of it, but that the way the old car hobby goes. wm

I was gathering up my '49-50 Olds parts the other day, with the thought that I needed to get busy and finish the car. I have been guarding a set or original 49-53 wheels and a very nice set of original dog dish hub caps for the car. Looking at the wheels I discovered that one of the wheels is very badly rusted along the rim where the tire would mount.
If anybody has a spare wheel, 15 x 5x 5.5" with the three spring clips for the dog dish hub caps I would appreciate you sharing the wheel with me. Wm.

Wheels

I would sand blast the rim , then use tire sealer on the rim.

64 Rocket, Thank you for the reply.. I have spent some time in the last couple of days contacting several Oldsmobile guys that I know in the Western US.. The common conscience was that the '49-54 Olds wheels are very rare, that being said, it appears that the answer to my problem is to have the wheel sand blasted to actually see how deep the rust on the bead area is. Maybe I can luck out, 3/4 of the rim is in very good shape, just the portion that was sitting down in the mud,?, etc., is bad. Wm.
