Hi everyone! The valve covers on my '49 88 are a gold color with silver spark plug wire retainers...I am going to have to refinish the covers anyway and wonder if someone can tell if this is correct? I think I saw some decals for the spark plug retainers on ebay.

Your guess is probably better than mine. I've seen many combinations. Here are some from the original brochures and the museum (where's the wire retainer?). Perhaps none of them represent the production version.
I've got a 94 year old friend who bought one new, but I wonder if he could remember correctly.

 

The 49 and 50 both used the valve covers with the spark plug wire looms. I think the valve covers were green for both years but the wire looms were different colors but I am not sure what colors went for which years. Apparently both years had red letters.
