1957 rear fender support bracket?

Hi, I have a 1957 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight 4 dr sedan. The rear wheel arch area seems quite flexible, and not supported anywhere. As the car is new to me, and I don't have another to compare to, is this normal, or should it have a support bracket/brace somewhere? It seems to be most flexible above the centre of the rear wheel arch on both sides. I know to expect some flex there, but it seems VERY flexible.

support bracket

Yes, there is a support bracket back there. It mounts to the wheel well panel with 2 #14 sheet metal screws and to the bottom of the quarter panel rear wheel opening. This bracket is not the usual heavy duty Oldsmobile part. It is sheet metal stamped with a rib for strength. Most likely yours is rusted away. I don't have any pictures of one but can describe as about 3/4 inch wide and about 12-15 inches long. You may be able to look there and see the remains of yours, or the holes where it would attach, Eric

Thanks

Eric - thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. Don't suppose you or anyone else on here has or could take a picture of bracket/mounting points mentioned?

Thanks,
John
