1957 98 valve covers

I am curious if the valve covers and air filter housing was an option to get in chrome? My 57 98 Starfire have them and would like to know if this was aftermarket or a factory option?

I've seen a bunch of 57 valve covers through the years that were chrome but as far as i have been told or knew they were all after market or a rechrome. Never seen a chrome air cleaner that was chrome unless on a custom. My guess is, not stock.

If it is important that they be stock color there are primers that will stick to chrome and get you back to the original color....Tedd

Not so much concerned about it being stock, more curious than anything. I had even wondered if the air intake or snorkel was large enough for the 4BBL to pull air in?
Thanks Tedd.

Yes, not stock, and the air cleaner lid doesn't look like the type I recall on my '57. I think they look real nice. I have cars where the under hood got some extra chrome for flash, we forget quality plating used to be very inexpensive.

The item with red arrow caught my attention - I thought it might be a sending unit of some kind, but why there? Can you tell us what it is?

Thanks

That is an in line fuel filter...I believe....I just purchased the car a few weeks ago. It looks like someone had replaced the stock fuel line with a braided type. This winter I am hoping to spend some time detailing under the todd a little better. Last weekend I was pulling hand fulls of old grease from around ball joints and control arms to expose the grease fittings. Many years of greasing and no cleaning.

Yeah makes sense - The vacuum line behind sort of registered with my brain as the fuel line - Thanks
