1952 Olds 88 Sedan build

I'm a student on a budget, that inherited this beauty from an uncle that passed away. My cousins didn't have an interest in restoring it, so I was next in line!

So far I've done the master cylinder and wheel cylinders, rewired the ignition, replaced the starter solenoid, and plugs and fluids. She sat for over 11 years... after the stuff above, dropped a little gas in the bowl, and she fired and purred!

As of now - I'm looking for a new 6v generator... any thoughts on switching to a 6v alternator? Or does anyone have a source for a reliable 6v generator? Thanks!

Welcome, nice looking car. I will tell you to get a service manuel if you don't have one. Probably find one on ebay for not to much but it will be invalueble to you. As for the generator, I personally would have the one you have rebuilt. Somebody should be able to point you in the right direction. If not pick up a Hemming"s moter news at a magazine shop and look under services. Sometime in the future you may want to upgrade to a 12 volt system.
Looks like your getting a younger generation involved too.

If your looking for a re-build kit you could contact Hal at The Classic Preservation Coalition. He has rebuild kits for the 6 volt generator. I have purchased a fuel pump kit and had great results. He will rebuild for you and also will offer advise. He's a good guy.

Thanks for the link! It ended up needing a new arm, so I found a small starter/electric shop here in Mesa, AZ that I felt comfortable with - he's rebuilding it as we speak! He said, "Does a week work? Or do you need it sooner?" I told him I was just excited to drive it... so he said, "Okay, got it... sooner the better then."

She still needs a lot of work... but besides tires, the generator should be the last major issue to make her road worthy/reliable. Then, I can tinker with everything else as I drive it!

Absolutely. Thanks! Hoping to get the generator back in 4-5 days, slap it in, and enjoy it!
