1940 information

Hello All... I have an opportunity to buy a 1940 (I believe) 70 series 4 door sedan that needs a few things after a 25 year old restoration. Large items are fuel tank, which is non existent with the car.... a few inside details like the horn ring inserts and the radio and the inserts (plastic?) that are on top of the door panels. ........the particulars are SN CG19981 Style No 40-3619 Body No C 2401 ...... Trim No 6.....Paint No 49. any help with the particulars and opinions about availability of parts would be great... The fuel Tank.. is it a large concern? I have not been able to locate many parts after a few hour searching Thanks (reposted from the newby section)

1940 Steering Wheel identification

Hi guys I am new to Olds Motor works cars and need a little help

First after looking at several pictures I haven't seen this wheel and wanted to know if it's original to the series 70

Second what color and type of material was in the inserted area of the horn ring

Third would anyone have a picture that i could reference should I have to fabricate the inserts

Thanks
Scott

The inserts are ivory in color. I would suggest you watch E-bay there have several listed
in the last year,a couple were in excellent condition. Good Luck

Its a deluxe wheel. It was an extra option. Its supposed to have an ivory look to the insert. They are usually cracked up so I assume it was a plastic type material. I will try to post a photo of mine restored.

Thanks for the help sir. I might be able to fabricate the insert with a little patience I will have to find some colors for glass or a filler putty that can be colored.

Try Evercoat epoxy color. it can be mixed with casting resin and made to match most any color. Found at most any boat shop that specialize in fiberglass repair..... Tedd https://www.amazon.com/Fibre-Glass-E.../dp/B003Y75L50

Upholstery

Has anyone been able to source a factory replacement interior kit for the 1940 series 70. I done some looking and found one source that does packages for 1930's but it skips the 39-40 years and picks up again in 41.

Deaddds wheel looks about right, maybe a bit aged but correct for the deluxe wheel. I've included a link of a service in CA that has the correct wheel castings that can restore these wheels with a lifetime warranty, not cheap but worth it if you intend to have it for a long time. He had quoted me $800 some years back..The Bakelite pieces on the door panels, radio and window cranks are especially hard to find in good condition. Keep looking diligently and be patient,...eventually those things will find their way to you. With regards to the fuel tank, they tend to always be rusted out and worthless...mine was leaking and dented but still proved to be solid and worthy of Renu process, I felt very lucky! Good luck and share photos!

Thanks Funkwagon I've got 2 1962 corvette wheels to referb. Might be worth having them quote them. They make a factory lookalike in 15 inch that allows more leg room. The link doesn't look as though it made it.
