Muncie I.D.

I have what I believe to be a Muncie 4spd. but was looking for more clarification on the code. I located PO122 on my trans where the I.D. numbers are supposed to be located. I bought this for a 4spd conversion on my 71 442.
What do I have? What is correct for 71?

From http://www.5speeds.com/muncie2.htm

"Serial numbers from 1963 to 1966 included only the month and day. P0101 would indicate January 1st.",

So your's would be Jan 22.

Is the countershaft 7/8" or 1"?

Later Muncies used a letter designation for the production month

It would help to have the case casting numbers too

Sounds about right.

Get all the casting ID's and google Muncie ID- lots of info out there summarized.

After 1968 there should be a VIN stamp also, tell exactly what vehicle it was in- make, year, and sequential number- but perhaps not the exact model- unless that certain VIN only came on one model- like a Corvette maybe. You can rule out Toronado I guess...

PO122

P for Muncie - go figure.
the rest, my memory fails me on, perhaps day 122 of 1970, or day 012 of 1972?
That's what the trans info sites are for.

Think it's Jan 22nd. It's a 66 or earlier Muncie. No year indication in the stamped date code until 67 model year.
