Question Questions on change from Jeyway to a tubro 400

I have decided to change my Jetway to tubro 400 after reading the article in Journey with Olds. My car has the 330-310 horse power engine. Here are my Questions.

(1) Will I have to Change Flywhee ?l

(2) What Torque converter should I use (will not be drag racing)?

(3) Will I still be able to use my shift linkage, my car has column Shift?

I have probable have missed other things that will have to be done, fell free to enlighten me.

I know from reading the Article I will have to move crossmember 1- 1/2

inches back, shorten the drive shaft the like amount and install big yoke for
a turbo 400, and install new trans cooling lines.

Thanks ----SID

If you swap to a th350 you don't have to do any of that, with the exception of finding a dip stick that fits perfect.
It's a direct swap, and will save you a bunch of money.

Answering your other questions:
You do not have to change the flex plate.
Any stock th350 or 400 converter will work
Linkage.....maybe maybe not. If you use the bracket from the jetaway you have a good chance of it working out.

But you won't be able to hit first gear with the shifter.

Just curious, why would he not hit first gear with the shifter?? I'm planning on doing a similar swap! I was always under the impression the column has the detents for park/ reverse, but neutral and the gear position detents are controlled by the trans. I would understand the pointer not pointing correctly, but I would have thought all the gears would be accessable.

There will be one detent missing (1st gear) and you can't move the shifter far enough to reach it.

This is for a Camaro floor shifter, but the principal is the same.

I did the swap on the blue 66, took the jetaway out put a switch pitch 400 turbo. I see some of the questions have been answered. I used my existing column linkage with no modifications and get all gears with no problem. I used the switch pitch converter from my 2 speed in the 400 switch pitch (I did send it off and had it rebuilt and the stall speed raised, I like it) I also used the transmission cooling lines, I didn't change them, they were good and they bolted right to the 400 trans, no problem. I may have tweaked them, I don't remember, but it couldn't have been much or I would remember, what i think is it was nothing, just went right in. I used a Milodon flexible fill tube/dipstick. The Milodon has a larger tube than the Lokar so putting in fluid is as normal. The Milodon tube bolted to the firewall by an existing hole so no drilling new holes on the 66 firewall. A little trick I learned from my friend who is a drag racer, We put a piece of vaccum line on the vent tube on the 400 trans and ran it up to the firewall attached it to the fill tube (he says 400s have a tendacy to puke fluid out the vent tube, I have no idea) But before I did that it puked small amounts of fluid and speckled the rear of the car, now it doesn't. I started with a 400 s/p from a 65 Delta, changed the case to gain a speedo hookup, used a later valve body (something about 1st gear kickdown) but kept the switch pitch. I am happy with it.
Good luck,

Not trying to hijack the post, the project is similar!

Also glad to hear that the column shif will work!

Ok, so what torque converter stall speed would someone run if the T400 were hooked to a 455, mild build, 3:08 gears "O" rear, and P275-60-15 tires. I will be used for mostly cruising with some hwy driving. I'm guesstimating a cruise rpm of 22-2600 rpm?

I just did this swap myself. The cooler lines bolt right in without bending.
