'65 442 Tranny

How can I tell if it's a M-20, M-21, Saginaw or whatever else they put in these cars. I suspect their are casting numbers to identify each, no? If so, any insight as to each ones would be appreciated. Also, which is the "preferred" tranny? Can't remember which one is close ratio and whether or not that is a desired one over the other. Any idea on which one(s) were put in the '64 442's? I'll be looking at one soon and want to identify it correctly. Thanks.

A muncie has a 7 bolt side cover and the reverse lever is on the tailshaft. I believe a 64 442 would have an aluminum cased Muncie.

check bros site, under transmissions for specs, the m20 is a wide ratio trans (mine) for road driving, taller first gear, the m21 is a close ratio, more for drag racing, the m22 rockcrusher is built for road racing to handle long races, different cut gears, you want an m20 or m21 whatevers available

Great, I'll check the site out and get back with any further questions. Thanks.
