4 speed overdrive question

Am putting in a 700R4 into a Cutty that had an original turbo 350. I was wondering if when you put the trans into 1st, does the lever have enough room to go down into the column and indicator window to actually work? Like disappear into the column indicator. The reason I ask is that when I was a kid I had a Chevelle with a Powerglide. I put a TH350 in it and it had enough room to go down into the first gear that didn't exist before (but really did, it just wasn't marked). Am I being even reasonably clear? I really don't want to put a floor shifter in the car and replace the column. EEsh!

Yes it should have the room to go into 1st. Look into shiftworks. They make correction linkage, and indicators.
