76 cutlass 442 4 speed conversion
76 cutlass 442 4 speed conversion
Hey guys,
Just had a moment to post a question to see if anyone has converted a 73-77 cutlass to a four speed? Those years all have the same automatic console for the shifter.
I know the 76/77 had a four speed option behind the olds 260 mini v8..
I was browsing around on "The Parts Place" and they have a conversion a couple conversion kits available for this era of car that looks to include pedals and other brackets. bell housing available for the older muncie, saginaw, borg warner 4 speed transmissions based off of GM's design, so they say.
As well as a bell housing for a later style transmission..
At this point I am just curious. I had the TH350 built to be behind the olds 455, and the $2400 cost of a "new" 4 speed from parts place is a bit much.
Just curious as to how well the conversion went for any whom have done it. And what ya did to keep the console, or if you eliminated it..
Alex

Awesome thank you for the link! If I pursue the swap, betting I will need it!
The conversion in terms of peddles/clutch/brackets is easy. Bellhousings are everywhere(BOP thing). Console is unique to the 4 speed setup(Hard to find) Factory Shifter is another tough one to find(Assuming you are going with a muncie ??)
As mentioned the crank bearing thing is another hurddle.
Pontiac made more 73-77 4 speed A bodies than Olds and so they are a good source for OEM parts if your interested.

The 1973-77 cars ARE A-body cars. The bellhousings are the same. You are thinking of the bells used on the 1978-88 A/G body cars.
