I bought a '66 Toronado last year and it had an incorrect carb on it. I spent the past several months getting the right carb with the right throttle lever and kick-down linkage. A few days ago I got everything hooked up properly and adjusted the linkage per the service manual. I took the car for a drive and found no noticeable difference in performance or gearing. I know the throttle switch is working because now I have the kick-down feature that I didn't have previously, plus the test light shows power at the two terminals on the switch at various points in it's rotation. So my question is how do I know if the switch-pitch is working correctly if I can't feel the difference? Is there a test or is it simply a seat-of-the-pants feel?

You should be able to feel when the stall-speed changes. You might try temporarily hooking up a manual switch, so you can change the pitch under different conditions: idle, steady throttle, heavy load.

You should also be able to simply hear a heavy click if you apply power with the engine off.

 

this may sound stupid but. are you sure its not a th400 with just the kick down. The PO on my car had a manual switch and thought it was switch pitch for a 350. The trans was in fact and still is a TH400 in the car.
