trans and engine block numbers

The two pics are of the engine block and trans in my 72 Cutlass Supreme. Hopefully someone can decipher them for me. The trans numbers are confusing, but both the block and trans numbers reflect the VIN last six digits.

The 2nd photo looks like a re-stamping to reflect the VIN. Every character except the first one shows different than your VIN. Joe P would be a better judge of this.

never saw a VIN stamped upside down, I'm surprised with the fixture that it was possible

but someone caught the mistake & restamped it right side up - WOW!! it's much better now …..

Engine trans numbers

Thanks for getting back to me. That makes sense on the trans. Could anyone tell me what the 32R is? I think maybe 32 is 2bbl engine and R is Arlington, Texas plant.

The "3" is the GM division, Oldsmobile, "2" is the year, 1972, and "R" is the plant, Arlington, TX
