changing the speedometer

hi,
is it possible to change from wheel hub speedometer to transmission speedo, have an 455cui, no cruise control, th(m) 400 trans in an 69 delta 88 custom, but itīs build in 68, maybe itīs an 68 motor. the speedometer cable is broken and it seems nearly impossible to find another one.
is there a possibility to connect to the transmission to have an funtional speedo or not
thanks, Folks

Yes, but it is not easy. The problem is that your trans case does not have the hole machined for the speedo driven gear fitting, nor does it have the speedo drive gear on the output shaft. The speedo driven gear fitting goes into the case, not the extension housing, so you need a different case with the speedo driven gear provision. Once you do that, you need to add a speedo drive gear to the output shaft. Of course, you also need to figure out what drive/drive gear combo provides the correct cable drive speed for your speedo. The wheel-driven speedo does not use the same revs/mile as a trans-driven speedo.

Alternately, you could get this aftermarket SpeedBox, which provides a cable drive output from a GPS sensor.

By the way, your car does not have a 1968 engine, at least not from the factory. 1969 model year production ran from Aug 1968 to Jul 1969. Your car came from the factory with an engine from the same model year as the car.

The speedbox is about $400.00, I'm not an I-phone user but I wonder if the I-phone app is free? . I use an Older GPS myself since I changed my rear gears and my speedo is off by about 20MPH

maybe the problem is solved, found a company that restaurates oldtimer speedometers, will go soon to have a talk with them.
