Shifter ball size

I recently purchased a hurst shift ball for my 4 speed swap. (3/8 16). I have 2 original hurst 442 shift handles and I’d did not fit either one. It seemed to be too small. Does anyone know what size thread size I need? Do I need a 3/8 24? Or possibly a 7/16 20 ? Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks

Possibly 3/8-24 although 3/8-16 is what I thought was typically indicated. But if you want to know for sure, try different thread count hex nuts on the handle to see what fits

You should see if you can find a hurst (or similar) thread adapter kit that typically goes with the shifter handle - they usually includes multiple SAE sizes.
