Reversing uphill

Has anyone had a problem with reversing uphill, particularly any problems related to the Slim Jim, Transmission and reversing uphill?

If the fluid is up to par, then it sounds like the transmission is getting tired.

Reverse is often the first selection to show issue. My th350 has the signs as well, she's just about 140,000 miles and of course 56 years old. ( But can still rip through the forward gears...)

Yah unfortunately that’s kind of what I’m thinking but wasn’t really sure when it came to the slim Jim transmissions I’ve got a 454 with a th400 probably be cheaper to change it over to that then get the slim Jim rebuilt from what I’ve been reading

First sign for me was that it started taking longer than usual to engage in reverse.

If it's doable a th400 is the best.

we’ll swapping is far more likely than finding someone locally that knows what that transmission is or and that’s a big or knowing how to rebuild it. I seem to be in a dead zone when it comes to anything class auto 😬

Not a Slum Jim, or even old school, but I could only get my work truck half way up the ramp backwards. The fluid in the trans shifts to the front of the sump/pan and uncovers the filter pickup. You lose fluid, you lose reverse.

In my area the nearest shop that can rebuild a TH-400 is an hour away. With a waiting list.

Much as we love these old cars, the knowledge about repairing them is going away. As are parts to do the jobs.
