Loose play in transmission shifter on the column
Loose play in transmission shifter on the column
Hi, I had my 68 Delmont 88 towed on a bed several hundred miles for transport (which was sitting on an incline on the bed during the two). It was off the ground.
Anyway, after I got the car back, the transmission shifter is flimsy, has play in it. Meaning, when I put it in reverse "R", the needle can move like 1/4 inch left or right if I move the shifter while it is in gear fine. In Drive "D", a little less play, but still does it. I have a hunch that the towing company didn't use the emergency brake during the transport and shifting gears on an incline and now something is loose. It drives fine, but it is annoying.
Any ideas on what the repair is for this please?
By the way, I already tightened the screw on the actual shifter (inside the car) and that did not fix the problem.

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure where to start to look from your description, I am assuming at the drivers side of the transmission and then work up. Is the loosening most likely a nut that needs tightening?
