Jetaway wont shift from second to third gear
Having some troubles with the olds -60.
It shifts from first to second gear perfect but it wont shift any further. Oil level is full, checked when in park and the oil is hot. I've tried adjusting the tv rod back and forth but I cant find any information on how it's supposed to be.
Im not a tranny guy so every help is usefull. Also dont own a shop manual.

The Jet-a-way is a two speed tranny

This is another thing I'm not an expert on. I do know that the original transmission that was introduced in 1956 and known as "Jetaway" had a fluid coupling that shifted from 1-2 to 3-4. You can't feel first to second or third to fourth. You can only feel second to third as the fluid coupling "shifts". I don't know if that design was still in effect in 1960.

Frank I have never owned one but I think the Jetaway was used through 1961 and then Olds went to the Roto-hydramatic which I believe was a three speed. The original Jetaway had two fluid couplings to make it shift smoothly. Most of what I have said is a halfway guess. Hope all is well with you.

I pulled this off the Internet, but I believe it speaks to the discussion of the type transmission employed in 1960 & 1961 w/ 1961 using a torque converter as opposed to fluid coupling (if you believe what you find on the Internet).

Confusingly, the transmissions in both cars are called Hydra-Matic, but they are not the same transmission, nor are they the same as the original Hydra-Matic introduced back in 1940. The 1960 Oldsmobile 98 uses the four-speed, dual-coupling Hydramatic, introduced in 1956 and shared by Pontiac and Cadillac. The dual-coupling Hydramatic was far more flexible than many two- and three-speed rivals, but it was bulky, enormously complicated, and expensive to produce. The 1961 Oldsmobile uses the new, greatly simplified Roto Hydra-Matic. Although the newer transmission has only three speeds, it uses a torque converter in place of the four-speed’s fluid coupling, giving the effect of an additional gear at very low speeds. The Roto Hydra-Matic (often called “Slim Jim” because of its smaller case) was 75 pounds (34 kg) lighter than its predecessor and a lot cheaper to produce. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very efficient and it had a propensity for fluid leaks, so it was not necessarily an improvement.

Your source is a little off in that Oldsmobile introduced the hydra-matic in 1939 for the 1940 model year. Olds served as the test bed for the transmission and sold more cars than Cadillac. If there was a problem GM did not want to run the risk of uphappy Cadillac customers.

Roto/SlimJim do not have torque converters. There's a gizmus called "Accel-A-Rotor" inside the fluid coupling that redirects fluid within the coupling to give an almost imperceptible 1st gear to get the car moving. Within 5-10 seconds the Accel-A-Rotor was out of the picture and the transmission functioned normally. Or as normally as a SlimJim can function.
And I am still amazed at the folks who think Oldsmobile didn't build cars before the 1964 A-body and reference everything to that point in time.
Course it was Oldsmobile's own marketing doublespeak that caused the Jetaway confusion.
