I checked before mating the trans to the engine and none of the mounting holes line up to the flex plate. Part of the pad on the torque converter is hitting the weight that sticks out from the flexplate.

Can I trim the pad on the converter to allow room for the weight? Or would that throw off the balance of the converter.

TCI breakaway converter and a Pioneer flex plate. Trans is a th350.

none of the holes are lining up because one pad is hitting the balance weight on the flexplate. Which misaligns the others.

No washers or spacers are recommended for this converter. TCI recommends 1/8” of clearance between the pads and flex plate BEFORE bolting the converter to the flex plate.

So spacers or washers are for measurement purposes only.

I should have the 1/8” clearance since I measured the end on the transsmision case to the pads on the converter. And the face of the flex plate to the back of the block.

This converter fits into the crank nicely. I have not ran this flexplate before. The old converter had to be shimmed with washers and fit fine on the stock flexplate.

I ended up biting the bullet and cutting a 1/4 squared inch from the pad. It lines up fine now. There is still 1.375 square inches of pad area. So hopefully it will be okay.

In hindsight I could have just clocked the converter where I needed it to be and drilled new holes in the flex plate.
