Detent Switch

I wasn't sure whether to put this in this section or the electrical section. I just bought a 75 Hurst Olds with the 455 and Turbo 400. I am not getting a downshift and from what I have read the detent switch is supposed to be under the accelerator and it is not there. I have a plug there with two wires. If anybody has a picture of the correct switch I would appreciate seeing it. I would also like a source for the switch. I am going back this week to pick up six totes of spare parts and the switch may be in one of the totes. I also need a source for the grommet that goes in the air cleaner that the pipe from the left valve cover goes in. I have looked in the usual places but have not found them or there are several different switches listed. I just want to be sure I get the right one.

Thanks Guys

Glenn,

Just to verify, the fifth character of the VIN is a "T", correct? All dash harnesses got the kickdown wiring, no matter which trans. It would be unusual for the switch to be missing.

The correct switch is P/N 1242101, which is the same for 1969-1975.
The bracket (called a "reinforcement" in the parts book) is P/N 1241016, used on 73-76 A-body cars, among others. It was also used on the 1980s B-body cars, so a used one should be easy to find. It is not the same as the repros sold for the 68-72 cars.

Thanks Joe. It is for sure a T and I found the plug near the gas pedal. I bought this car from a guy that has been a member of NTOC for several years and spent 6 years restoring this car. He did a very nice job but I have no idea why the switch is missing. He has six tubs of spare parts that I have to go back and get. The switch and bracket may be in one of those tubs. Thanks for your help.
