Hi there
trying to find a vibration in our 4 door sedan , I have not taken driveshaft off yet , was not put together on my shift
coupla questions::
does the slip joint have a master spline or can you rotate it
to any spline position as the UJ yokes are not in phase
are they meant to be in phase?
thanks

I’m not familiar with the transmission in a 56, but I have never seen a slip yoke with a master spline. I suppose anything is possible.
If the yoke bolts on, mark the flanges to ensure it goes back together the same way it came apart. If the yoke will go together multiple ways, you can try to clock the yoke/flange in different positions to possibly tune out the vibration. That’s assuming the joints are tight without excessive slop.

Well do you have a Shop Manual for that car? My friend had a 1963 Buick Riviera he bought from the original owner family. (I know different car-- but...). This car had a broken bolt which holds the center bearing. Him and I Took out the whole 2 piece drive shaft to get out the broken bolt. I was the "Expert" here as I was a old mechanic years back. How smart I was to notice the shafts were out of phase- everyone knows the u joints need to be in phase! But since he had the manual we looked it up. Guess what the shaft were supposed to be out of phase- even showed how to set it up just exactly as it was set when we took it apart. Replaced broken bolt and all was fine. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Solved
got it sorted once I got the car up on stands so I could get a decent look . The center bearing/slip joint was not in line with rest of drive shaft, the back uj was not tight , replaced diff pinion seal as well. Slip joint does have a master spline and Yes the drive shaft is meant to be out of phase ,,,thanks Greg.
cannot test yet as still rebuilding carb and dizzy

You can see master spline at the 5 oclock mark
This looks factory
