1967 olds 442 rear axle bearing still leaking ??

Hi all. well looks like it showed its face again, i did post this before and really thought that by putting in a new axle seal cuz there wasn't one that the story would end there, it didn't, looked out there tonight and gear oil leaking out again from the backing plate down, well i not sure how iam even going to get that one out of there, chisel punch ?? i will rip into it this weekend it was good for like 2 weeks nothing on the floor, then i took it out last weekend and finally romped on it so it would be ready to go to rock falls on sep 22 3 days since i took it out its leaking, any ideas on what i should be looking for, really frustrating, thanks for your help, john...

Is the axle worn where the seal rides?

Take a pic of the axle where the seal rides and post your seal part number.

Will do, i know the part # is 8594S if you look at my original post there was no seal in there that's why it leaked of course, i am suspicions right now i had nothing to compare it to, god i hope i don't have the thing in backwards ???? the rubber ring is facing outwards towards the drum i remember putting it in that way !!

I use a bolt with a 1/4" or so rope tied to the center of it. Insert the bolt through the hole in the seal, turn the bolt so it catches behind the seal, then yank the seal out.

Hopefully the leak was due to something simple such as the seal being installed the wrong direction.

removal

Well your not going to be able to reuse it...Just buy another. If you have a 3/4 inch socket set ...or and sleeve tubing same diameter that fits nicely you can use that to tap in the tube...The removal is easy use a drift (1/2 diameter steel rod) to mangle one side of the seal and then just pry it out through the doughnut hole center wedging against the outer tube edge. It will bend up like a potato chip.
