Trans. ID.

My '72 Cutlass has a TH400.The #'s on the tag are 70-OC-64523.Can this trans be original?

On the drivers side along the bottom case flange there should be a VIV derivative numbers stamped. If those numbers matches your VIN, it is the original trans.

Not original. 70 means 1970; OC was from a big car, 455 2 barrel. OC code was not used in 72. This is according to the Chassis service manuals for 70 and 72. Does your tranny still have the long tail shaft? That would indicate it came from a big car.

Kurt:The only #,s I can find are on the tail piece,which is 4" from flange to end.CDA-1A 8624486
