torque specs

curious if anyone knows the torque specs for the transmission pan bolts on 65 olds dynamic 88 w/ th400 tranny. my book says 13lbs if im reading it right. does this sound right. have had a hell of a time getting this thing to seal. been through i dont know how many gaskets and on my second pan lid. when i tighten it down to 13lbs the gasket smashes down and pushes out. thats why i was wondering if maybe 13ibs was to much. thanks chris

100 in/lbs or 8 ft/lbs. for me, i use a speed handle and run it down to have zero lash, then about an 1/8-1/4 more. you see the gasket just start to move outward but not squirt out. you want to snug the gasket not crush it, which you're probably doing. don't use sealer as it can cause the gasket to squirt out easier.

the other suggestion is to get a more expensive gasket with metal sleeves in the holes so it is impossible to over tighten, then 13lbs is no problem. if it doesn't seal then you may have a leak comming from somewhere else dripping over the pan. when the front pump seal starts to seep it can look like a pan gasket.
