Th350 won't roll in neutral
I pulled the th350 out of my 71 Cutlass a little bit ago to replace leaking pump seals. While I was at it, I put in a new torque converter. Reinstalled in the car and everything seemed fine.
The column shifter shifts to all positions. It goes forward in drive, backwards in reverse, doesn't move in park or neutral. I have not had it back out on the road yet to see how it shifts.
I'm stumped by a problem I just discovered today. Tried to push it around the garage with engine off. Shifted it to neutral and it wouldn't budge. Same in all gear positions, it would shift until gears tighten and then go nowhere.
Any idea why it isn't rolling in neutral? Thanks!

Check the brakes for a bad caliper or hung up shoes.
Raise the rear wheels off the ground. Can you rotate each rear tire? If yes then do the same for the front wheels. You are looking for a frozen caliper or hung up or over adjusted rear shoes. (same if its 4 wheel drum).
If all 4 wheels rotate freely then with the rear end off the ground remove the flywheel inspection cover bar over the engine. Does the driveshaft rotate?

Make sure the primary and secondary shoes are installed in the right direction. Back off the star adjuster don't simply try to beat the drum off caveman style.
The primary shoe is the shorter one and goes on the forward side.
