TH 400 Shifter Opinions

Hi guys, i read a lot on here but have never posted. I have done a frame off restoration on my 68 442. I am nearing the end. I have a new rebuilt 12 bolt posi in the rear, and just picked my 455 up from Pro-Formance engines in Rochester NY who did an awesome job getting my BB to make 445 hp and 509 ft. torque. I also had a TH 400 built and I am ready to install it here pretty soon.

What do you guys think is the best shifter to hook up to this? I am not going to be racing all that often, maybe once in a while, but mostly on the street.

Also all of my fuel lines are AN lines, so I was thinking about sticking with that theme with the tranny lines if possible, what size AN should I run and does anyone know what size the fittings are at each end?

Thank you for any info!

I purchased the shifter below and did not install it yet; however, it does look really nice....

I have a B&M Z gate shifter in my 1970 cutlass. It takes a little getting use to the shift pattern on it. Here is what it looks like.

I used the B+M ratchet shifter, back in the day, but now, if you're gonna 'make a pass', you have to have a reverse lock-out, I hear!

Hurst v-matic 2 replaced my worn out dual gate. Look in my album. Had a shop bend me up an 1/8 in piece of steel to to mount it to. And be able to use the original center Consol. Have a pic in my album. Can give you the dimensions on the plate too. Have pics of that also has reverse lockout.

Hey Mitch this is the guy you bought your rear quarters from. I would love to see how the car is coming along. We strongly encourage posting pictures of your project in process.
Are you looking to go with the factory look with an up graded shifter hidden inside or are you looking for all out after market pro-street approach?
The reason I ask is that I might have a line on a good condition 67-69 automatic console complete with stock shifter and floor mounting brackets wire harness etc....

Looks great! Considered installing a boot on mine to fool on lookers to thinking it's a manual shift. I still have the 4-speed pedals to complete the look. I like the dual gate look and afraid to harm the original top plate. Did you remove the top plate or install the boot over it?

I removed the top plate and the plate for the v-matic is almost the exact size of the width of the consols top. 1/8" overhang on each side if that. The plate I had bent up makes the difference to get it to sit flush with the consol. the original dual gate can go back in no problems. It comes with a gear indicator I took it off the shifter or I would of had to cut a notch in the consol to get it to work. this way once I get the dual gate rebuilt I can put it back in one day.there will only be 4 small holes from the vmatic plate in the top.

If your transmission has the adapter fitting still in it, it is 1/4 NPSM on one end and 1/2-20 inverted flare (female) on the other. This is how the transmission was made from the factory. If you still have these adapters then you will need the following parts:

(4) 1/2-20 inverted flare to -6 AN adapter fitting
(4) -6 hose ends
(2) 6' lengths of steel braided, pro-lite, or push lock hose.

1. Install a 1/2-20 inverted flare adapter into each fitting in the transmission and into the radiator
2. Install -6 hose ends on the braided hose (4 fittings)
3. Install -6 braided hose onto the inverted flare/ -6 adapters (route hose away from header as much as possible)
4. Secure along fender well or frame

Reconditioned and ready to go back in. I may go with the boot. Looks great.

I know the purists will thrash me, but it's a 70 console in a 69.
