Switch Pitch 400 or 200

The switch-pitch 400 acts like a high stall converter under wide open throttle. And then returns to "normal" during cruising.
The 200r4 has an extra "overdrive" gear, and when combined with a change of rear axle gears to a "lower" (numerically higher) ratio, like 3.42 or even 3.73, will give you much greater acceleration. And it will still give you good fuel economy when cruising.

I have a 400th in both the 67 f85 and 72 Cutlass. Working on my 67 convertible. I have a posi out of a 67 442 with 3:08 gears. I want to go with taller gears and the switch pitch is sitting in the corner. It sounds like I would be better off rebuilding a 200 rather than the switch pitch. Every thing from the 442 I parted-out is going in the convertible. The f85 has a 455 with a 400th, 3:08 Chev posi and if I keep my big foot off the gas I get 14-15 mpg. So if I do the convertible right I should do a little better with it.

The switch pitch would be cheaper but 2004r makes a great street strip tans. CK performance makes a lot of performance parts for the 2004r so that it can stand up behind most engines. Another shop to look at extreme automatics. Look up the 2004r on the turbo Buick sites lots of good info there.
Good luck

14-15 MPG is darn good for a 455. I don't think you could do better with a TH200r4.
