yea when I talked to my friend about taking a look at transmission he said he is not always up there and how busy he is.
If I had someone to take the trip with I would.

Craigslist is always good. I was asking about your location because the transmission shop that rebuilt mine had other tranny's from way back. That is outside Rochester. Quite a drive from Queens. But you might also check transmission shops especially the older ones

Doomah, I hate to say this, but you will not find a good transmission in NYC, and probably not on LI or Westchester either.
You and I both know that, deep down.
Cars in NYC are beat to $_|+, and I've never seen a collectively more dishonest group of sellers of cars, car parts, or anything else than in Olde NY. And I'm from there.

You answer an ad there, you're talking to some Middle Eastern guy who's telling you how his cousin's grandfather bought it new and babied it for forty years, when actually, his brother dragged it out of the bay last Tuesday.

Just take a drive up to '74Omega's place and buy his.
However long the drive is, it'll be less trouble than anything you can get closer to home.

I have to disagree with all of this. There are honest & dishonest sellers whereever you go. You have to show discretion with who you deal with. I have done business with plenty of locals from both EBay & Clist and have done fine. I bought my car from a guy in Brooklyn that had the car in the Poconos. The car was just as described.
If a deal or a seller doesn't feel right its probably not.

You may want to grab this while irts available for the 350 kick down cable.
DO NOT drive around w/out the kick down hooked up. It's no good for the seals.

Im not sure how deep your pockets are but have you looked at Summit & Jegs? $1200 for a Street Fighter BOP TH350, ( not sure if converters included but its a semi auto valve body and has a warranty) A reputable trans rebuild shop could build you a "new" one using a core they usually have on a shelf for just such the occasion. Said trans shop will be able to reman a 350 for $500-700, at last check.
