shifter adjustment
I merged your two identical threads. Your DUAL gate shifter is adjusted using the stud on the bracket at the transmission. The stud that the shift cable fits over has a nut that allows it to slide in the transmission bracket. Your Chassis Service Manual shows how to do this.
One would imagine that you loosen or entirely remove [clean and lube while it's out] the adjuster, put trans in park, put shifter in park, then mate the adjuster / cable / trans selector arm snugly at that position.
If it then fails to go into the proper gear in the trans as indicated at the shifter, that would indicate an incorrect part such as trans selector arm.

Sometimes you can't just adjust it in Park and have it work through the entire span - slop in the shifter can make it difficult to get into 1st when it is adjusted correctly for Park. I had to play around with mine to ensure it would go into both Park and 1st. It was trial and error with adjusting the stud on the trans bracket until I got the span right and it would go into gear at the high and low ends.
Needs to be adjusted with shifter and transmission both in Neutral. You will not likely get it just right on the first attempt. After a couple tries you will have it where it needs to be. Have someone hold the shifter against the stop in neutral while you adjust it under the car.
