Olds 3speed

Hey guys... Was cleaning out some stuff in the garage today and came across a 3speed trans from either my fathers 70w31 or his 70 442 he had back in the day. I know they were pretty rare... Any idea what these trannys are worth today??? Thanks!

Well if it is the Ford/Dearborn iron case trans there was no interest when I tried to sell mine for very little money. I am not sure what they used in 70 for the 3spd stick.

It's definitely NOT from a W-31. The base trans in the 442 would have been the Dearborn toploader HD 3spd. As always, rarity does not equal value. They are rare because no one wanted a three speed when you could get a four speed.

That's a Saginaw three speed and wasn't factory installed in either a 70 W-31 or a 70 442.

After he thought about it some more, it came out of his 70 cutlass. Dunno if it came in that car or not in 70, but that's what it came from he said. Never the less.... Any value at all in it? Selling off old stuff to put towards my 70 w30 resto. Thanks again!

Yes, the three speed Saginaw was offered in the 70 Cutlass behind the six or 350 as the base transmission. W-31s got four speeds, and 442s got the Dearborn HD three speed.

69 was the last year for Ford toploader 3spds in GM cars. For 1970 and newer there was a HD muncie 3spd installed.

Should be worth a couple of hundred to anyone who NEEDS a replacment one otherwise it's not sought after.
