Ahhh, the man with the opener. Here comes the can 'o worms. You should have some good responses on this. Have you by any chance done a site search on "jetaway' or 'powerglide'? It might save a little time.

What I can tell you is my 67 Cutlass had a 330 hooked up to a Jetaway. Not a problem there - it was designed to go behind the 330. Not the fastest off the line, but a good solid tranny. I would have preferred a 3 speed though. If I could go back and do it again I'd hook it up to a floor shift 3 or 4 speed.

A two speed jetaway is a different tranny than a power glide... but the same as a Buick 300 trans...If you need parts or repair stuff and can't get anything for a jetaway then ask for the items for a 300... such as pan gasket and filter...

Their only similarity is that they're both 2-speeds. They're differently internally. No parts interchange. You'd likely be much better off putting a Jetaway behind your 330 as that was what was there originally and therefore it would bolt right in.

The main difference between your Jetaway (ST300) is it has a variable vane torque converter. The trans has some performance applications if you read up on it. It is a great combination when it operates correctly. It's like having an extra gear.

Just to clarify, both the PG and the ST300 (Jetaway) transmissions have the same gear ratios, but that's the ONLY similarity. Nothing interchanges between the two transmissions. Most of the Jetaways will have a switch-pitch torque converter.

As for the "best" transmission - get a built 200-4R.

The TH350 is a good trans, just make sure you get one for an olds. You will have to change your Torque converter, and you will need the throttle linkage for a kickdown.

The Chevy trans will not work without an adapter plate. I would go up one step for a torque converter, something around a 1800-2000 rpm stall, unless you have big plans in the future.
