gosh darn tranny!

Got some great newbie questions for you guys,

A. Im pretty sure i got a 350 trans in my cutlass, is there anyway to tell for sure?

B. Sometimes (2 out of 10 times) when you cold start the car in the morning and put it into drive or reverse and let your foot off the brake the car wont move. Give it a LITTLE gas and it sounds like its in neutral then catches and your on your way. This seems to only happen in the morning when its cold, other then that tranny holds tight with no slipping and smooth shifting.. What could this be? How much (ball park #) dose a tranny rebuild run for?

thanks!

Look at the carb,if you have the manual downshift linkage its the Turbo 350.
Turbo 400 will have an electrical connection for down shifting.
Low fluid would cause your cold condition...check for leaks.

Sure is a 350, thank you very much..

There is a small leak, but the fluid levels seem to be okay.. Its the weirdest thing cause sometimes it wont happen for weeks. But onnce again thanks for the info! gotta learn somewhere

Are you SURE that the level's okay?
You checked it hot, on a level surface, at idle, in Park or Neutral, after shifting it through all the gears once, right?

That's a real "slightly low fluid" kind of a problem.

Or front pump going away/internal leak.
A shift kit will increase the pressure, and it might last longer due to clutches slipping less.
Or fail completely - your call!

Front pump and/or forward clutch seals are going bad! Rebuild time!
