Question Doing the swap

I am going to do a trans swap in my Cutlass S 350 engine. Basic stock with a small RV cam. I am thinking of power glide out and th350 in. Would anyone have any advise on the best Trans and torque converter for that swap. I am not going to hotrod it at all, but would like it to spin the tires once in a while if I choose.

First off you don't have a powerglide. If its a 2 speed its most likely a jetaway (St300). The T350 would be a direct bolt in with the only mod being a kickdown cable.

thank you

thank you for correcting me, I did not realize I had to split hairs here to be understood. you are right it is not a powerglide it is a Jetaway. I also have chevy's so it's my mistake. both 2 speed, both GM. please forgive my ignorance.

This is my wife's car she had when she graduated from high school. she ask me to restore it. my wife passed away a year ago Wednesday. the car is now restored but she never got a chance to drive it.

thank you for your advice, I will remember it.

Wow, sorry to hear of your wifes passing without getting to drive her pride and joy. The reason I brought up the difference in the 2 speeds is that the ST300 has nothing in common with its Chevy counterpart. When you look for a T350, it has to be a BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiac) bolt pattern. The torque converter stall is dependent on your cam and rear gears.

update on doing the swap

I just checked the diff & ratio. If I am correct it is a 2.78 gear (S3) and a anti spin rear end.

If its just an RV cam you can probably can consider an 1800-2000 rpm stall. You can probably run a stock converter also.

Stock rebuild on a BOP TH350 with a stock converter, good quality frictions, and a shift kit should do nicely. You'll have to get the accelerator pedal for the 69-72 A body with a TH350, kick down cable from pedal to trans, and bracket that holds the shifter cable to the pan (Jetaway one is different). Keep an eye out for a good core on Craigslist or at the junkyard and ask around for a local reputable rebuilder.

doing the swap

thank you for the advice 65DELTA. I was thinking of buying an aftermarket trans and torque converter. I am looking at JEG'S trans 60305 and TCI 241502 Saturday night special. would that be in line of what you are talking about.

Both of those should work fine with a relatively stock engine and an RV cam. You can use the Chevy style kick down cable and carb bracket for your application also.
